Description:William Barnwell's services as a baker and corn dealer also expanded to supplying confectionery. It is interesting to note his claim of seeling "unadulterated bread" predating modern adverts of a similar nature by several decades. Spiers & Son's range of fresh produce includes fruit, flowers and fish. There are several adverts for fishmongers around this time which is quite a contrast to today where it is hard to find fish on sale outside the supermarkets. The advert is taken from the programme for the Saint James' Church Fancy Fair held at the New Inns Assembly Rooms November 20th to 23rd 1929.
