Description:Engraved by Thomas Garner after the original drawing by Frederick Cruickshank. Cruickshank was a Birmingham portrait painter. He exhibited 17 portraits, particularly miniatures,at the Birmingham Society of Arts between 1829-1849. Sarah Bache was a headmistress in Birmingham. When she retired in 1838 she moved to 2 Somerset Place, Hunters Lane (later Hunters Road), Handsworth.

She died in 1844 and this engraving was made from an original miniature by Cruikshank so copies could be sent to her friends and relatives.
