Description:George Lempriere died at his home in Wilton Road, Handsworth aged 93 - one week short of his 94th birthday. He was from his early twenties famed as a balloonist and aeronaut around the world, enlivening fetes and festivals with his exploits. This image was taken when he was about 90 and was used in the Sunday Mercury newspaper of 13th February 1949
