Description:Reverse general section of pumping engine for Mydrecht, Holland, May 1791.
This single-acting pumping engine with a 48 inch cylinder was for the States of Utrecht. It was ordered by the Dutch merchant John Daniel Huichelbos van Liender, with whom James Watt enjoyed a long correspondence. It was used for draining land around Mydrecht, on the River Amstel, near Uithorn in the province of South Holland. Note the new design for the beam that has been stuck on top of the original.
