Description:Reverse general view of 3 horse engine for Mona Mine, Anglesey, June 1790.

This small 3 horse engine with a A-shaped framing was for the Mona lead mine, at Parys Mountain, on Anglesey. It was one of the few small engines (3 horses and under) that Boulton & Watt made in the 1780s and 1790s, and was almost identical to the two 3 horse engines that had been supplied to the Birmingham Canal Navigation the previous year. The 1790s would end, however, with the introduction of new types of small engine and the beginning of the large-scale manufacture of such engines at Soho Foundry.
