Description:Reverse plan of 'sun & planet' engine, boiler, hammers, pan and clay mill for Josiah Wedgwood, Etruria, Staffordshire.

The renowned potter Josiah Wedgwood, who was a member of the Lunar Society alongside Matthew Boulton and James Watt, was a keen advocate of steam power. These drawings show a 'sun & planet' engine for powering various items of machinery at his Etruria factory. The engine is shown with a 22 inch cylinder and a single link motion connecting the piston rod to the beam.

This drawing is part of the Archives of Soho collection, which is held by Birmingham City Archives [Ref. MS3147/Portfolio/5/97]
