Description:Top part of drawing of elevation and plans of Messrs. Fish & Yates’ Tobacco and Snuff Mill, London.
Samuel Fish and John Yates bought an 8 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with a 16 inch cylinder and 4 foot stroke to power their tobacco and snuff mill in St. John Street in the Parish of St. Sepuchre, London. The elevation shows the space for the engine at the bottom left of the mill, the fly wheel and the shafts connecting the engine to the machinery. The plans show the engine and shafts, and the snuff milling machinery. Boulton & Watt somewhat cryptically referred to the engine by the code “FYX”.
