Description:Roy Douglas, a self taught artist and sculptor lives in Handsworth. Roy was born in Jamaica and came to England in 1959.The works he creates often use coconut shells, as well as wood, creating figures, vases and lamps. He began making figures in 1988. The colours he remembers well from Jamaica are often incorporated into his work. Amongst his pieces are a set of figures representing Roy's family, including his aunt Celeste from Jamaica, dressed in her finest clothes. He is seen here on his doorstep with a selection of his 'family and friends'.
Roy's work has been shown at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the Ikon Gallery and Soho House Museum.
