Description:Benjamin's Stone's brother, James Henry, died in December 1908. He was a JP and lived at his house, The Dene, in Sutton Coldfield. For most of his life though he lived at Grosvenor Road in Handsworth. His Handsworth public service began in 1880 when he became a member of the Handsworth Library Committee and soon after became the Chairman.
James acted as churchwarden at St Silas in Lozells and was also on the committee of the Handsworth Bridge Trust. He was one of the leading promoters of the scheme for Handsworth Public Park which was secured in 1887. At a public meeting brought to consider the subject, he was requested by the Handsworth Local Board to move a resolution in favour of providing the park as a suitable memorial of Queen Victoria's Jubilee. The resolution was carried despite some strong opposition - not least from the Rector of St Mary's at the time, Dr. Randall.
James Stone was buried with the rest of his immediate family in St. Mary's Churchyard (section J).
