Date:11th of January 1957

Description:Eunice Finlayson arrived from Jamaica on 11th February 1957 and set up home in Handsworth, Birmingham. This letter was written by the Reverend Morgan of the Jamaican House of Representatives as a reference for Eunice to use in seeking work.

The body of the text reads:

I take great pleasure in recommending Mis Eunice Finlayson of St James Jamaica B.N.I. to anyone who may be in a position to assist her in finding a job in the United Kingdom.

I have known Miss Finlayson for a number of years and can recommend her as an honest and trustworthy young lady. I shall be very grateful if you or your friends can assist her in finding a job on her arrival in the United Kingdom.

Eunice Finlayson is better known now as Eunice McGhie-Belgrave, the founder of the award winning Shades Of Black community organisation in Handsworth.
