Description:"One of the problems with Douglas Hurd, Home Secretary visiting Handsworth was that it created more tensions. The news spread like wildfire and within minutes the whole area was swollen with bodies..it was hot, the situation tense. People were coming in from the side streets, a few times I was lifted off my feet..then bricks and bottles started flying everywhere ...the security services then spirited Mr Hurd away very quickly."
