Description:This newscutting reports on a divorce suit brought by Agnes Mary Barnes against her husband Frederick James Barnes, a commercial traveller. It was alleged that Barnes had committed adultery with one Nellie Arnold and had behaved cruely towards his wife, threatening her with a knife and hitting her on the back with a dead turkey!
Ellen Rogers, otherwise known as Nellie Arnold was called to the hearing but did not attend. The judge stated he was satisfied as to the cruelty but adjourned the case until Nellie Arnold appeared. A further cutting reports that she did attend a later hearing and gave 'evidence of impropriety'. No defence was offered so the divorce was granted.
