Date:2nd of December 1899

Description:A newscutting reporting the death of eighteen year old Frances Kate Bibb while cycling. She had apparently been cycling at a 'medium pace' on a level road when she collapsed. She was unconscious and found to be suffering from a fractured skull and pressure on the brain. Dr Gamgee performed trepanning (making holes in the skull in an attempt to relieve the pressure) but this did not help. She was anaemic and it was believed that over-exertion had brought on heart failure.

From the G.H. Osborne collection of newscuttings.
