Description:By Allen Edward Everitt. Everitt (1824-1882) was a prolific Birmingham artist and antiquarian whose watercolours and drawings are an important visual record of the historic architecture of the West Midlands. He lived for much of his life in Edgbaston, first at George Road then later at The Grove, a Regency house in Frederick Road. His work comprises drawings of medieval churches at a time when so many were being extensively restored or rebuilt, as well as Elizabethan and Georgian buildings from both town and country.

Soho Pool had formed part of Matthew Boulton's landscaped park around Soho House. His grandson Matthew Piers Watt Boulton moved away from Birmingham, letting Soho House and Manufactory and building houses on the parkland. In 1852 Soho Pool was let to John Abraham for boating and fishing. Soon afterwards it was taken over by John Knibb who extended the range of attractions. The pool was drained in 1868.
