Date:30th of May 1969

Description:This piece of land had formed part of Sycamore Farm. The name Black Patch may come from a cinder track which was laid out as a training ground. Towards the end of the nineteenth century it became well known as a winter encampment for Gypsies, views of which are available on this site.

In the early twentieth century a public subscription was raised and the land was bought by Handsworth and Smethwick Open Spaces Society and turned into a park.
