Description:This upper chamber of the Council House was originally part of Handsworth Library. It was one of the rooms that was leased to Handsworth School of Dress Design until the 1960's, when the school became part of Birmingham Polytechnic, now the University of Central England. During the late 1970's this room, along with the remainder of the Council House, was taken over by Handsworth Technical College. It was used as the college library for a time but has now become a staff room. The ornately beamed roof has a preservation order on it.
