Description:Keith Whitehouse (left) and sister Pamela (right) attended the ‘Girls’ Boys’ and 'Infants schools’ in Mary Street. Later the school came to be known as ‘Belgrave Primary’.
Keith was there between 1959 and 1964. “The school was a melting pot of ethnic cultures” says Keith. “But, there was never any trouble in the way of racism etc, and the teachers were great in helping us kids to survive and prosper in a generally tough environment. We were often taken out for nature walks, to places such as Calthorpe and Cannon Hill Parks, and the Malvern Hills.” The teachers at the school come in for praise from Keith. “If we had a problem we were encouraged to talk to them, I remember particularly Jean Kent and the Head Mr Mundy. These teachers contrived a serenity that made you feel safe”. During the early 70s, Mr G. J. W. Mundy was honoured for his services to the community being made an M.B.E.
