Description:Vaughton's Hole on the River Rea, apparently the ideal spot for a rural dip. This was near the point where the River Rea crossed the old Kings Norton parish boundary, near the present Gooch Street. In 1745 a silver pocket watch was taken from a gentleman's clothing while he was bathing here and it was still a popular place for a swim as late as 1877. There were some drownings here in the nineteenth century. Close by was a flourishing brickyard.
