Date:April 1987

Description:After 6 years of campaigning by local residents, the City's Development(Planning)Department officers, backed by the City Sheriff, six uniformed policemen and a large bulldozer, finally took possession of
the Runcorn Road scrapyard site. Previous attempts to regain the illegally-occupied site had been repulsed by what one resident described as "large men brandishing staves accompanied by a fierce dog."

A Runcorn resident remembers the owner was called Bertie and the site was then occupied by travellers who sold perfume along Ladypool Road.
