Description:The Hamstead Brickworks in a state of dereliction on 19th June 1968. The brickworks, which is listed in directories as being part of Hamstead Colliery, was situated behind the houses of Hamstead Village, in the angle between Old Walsall Road and the Tame Valley Canal. On the wall in the centre of the photograph is a sign reading 'Hamstead Bricks'. Under magnification it can be seen that the chimney has the date 1876 (the year after land was acquired to begin work on the colliery) incorporated into the pattern of the brickwork.
