Description:Labour politician Nye Bevan is seen here addressing the May Day Rally in Calthorpe Park. Bevan was Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1959 - 1960 (when he died). As Minister of Health in the post war Government he spearheaded the establishment of the National Health Service.
The May Day Rallies have been annual events in many British cities focussing on issues facing workers.
